Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) has a long and respected history in medical education in Armenia. It began in 1920 as a medical faculty and later became an independent medical university in 1930. Today, it is a government medical university under the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia.
The university is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). Its medical degree is accepted in many countries, including India, where graduates can appear for licensing exams as per National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines.
In its nearly 100-year history, YSMU has trained more than 30,000 doctors now practising around the world. At present, over 6,000 students are enrolled, a significant number of them international students from more than 35 countries — creating a diverse, multicultural learning atmosphere on campus.

Eligibility Requirements
- Completed 10+2 (senior secondary education) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with at least 50% aggregate (45% for reserved categories) in PCB from a recognized board.
- Qualified NEET-UG. Indicative NEET cut-off: 147 marks for general category, 113 marks for reserved category.
- The applicant must be at least 17 years old by 31st December of the admission year.
- Admission is granted on the basis of scores achieved in the entrance examination.
NEET cutoff marks and other eligibility criteria are set by the NMC and may change each year — our counsellors will confirm the current requirements for you.
Course Duration & Details
- Total duration: 6 years (5 years academics + 1 year compulsory internship).
- Official language medium: English, with optional Armenian language support for clinical settings.
- Degree awarded: MD (equivalent to MBBS).
- Recognition: WHO & NMC (India) recognized.
- Clinical exposure: hospital-based clinical training in later years and during the internship.
