Tashkent Medical Academy (TMA) is one of the oldest and most respected medical institutions in Uzbekistan, with a history dating back to 13th April 1919. It began as the Faculty of Medicine at Turkestan State University, marking the start of modern medical education in the region.
The faculty graduated its first batch of 27 medical students in 1922 and expanded rapidly in the following years. In 1931, the institute was renamed the Tashkent Medical Institute and developed into a major medical education centre in Central Asia, later expanding its faculties to include dentistry and paediatrics and strengthening research and clinical training.
From the 1960s onward, the university also began welcoming international students from Asia, Africa and Latin America. Today, Tashkent Medical Academy continues its mission of training qualified doctors and healthcare professionals for Uzbekistan and the international medical community.

Eligibility Requirements
- Completed 10+2 (senior secondary education) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with at least 50% aggregate (45% for reserved categories) in PCB from a recognized board.
- Qualified NEET-UG. Indicative NEET cut-off: 147 marks for general category, 113 marks for reserved category.
- The applicant must be at least 17 years old by 31st December of the admission year.
- Admission is granted on the basis of scores achieved in the entrance examination.
NEET cutoff marks and other eligibility criteria are set by the NMC and may change each year — our counsellors will confirm the current requirements for you.
Course Duration & Details
- Total duration: 6 years (5 years academics + 1 year compulsory internship).
- Official language medium: English, with optional Uzbek/Russian language support for clinical settings.
- Degree awarded: MD (equivalent to MBBS).
- Recognition: WHO & NMC (India) recognized.
- Clinical exposure: hospital-based clinical training in later years and during the internship.
